The vision
To design a food stand for a Tybee Island fishing festival, where everything from the food to the fashion is inspired by fishing. The stand serves taiyaki, a fish-shaped Japanese dessert filled with red bean paste or ice cream, so the product itself reinforces the festival’s theme.
The challenge
How might we design a stand that is easy to move once the festival ends while staying strongly themed to its purpose? The design had to balance portability with enough visual character to stand out among other festival vendors.

Taiyaki is a Japanese snack often found at festivals. it is a fish-shaped snack with a filling. This could range from ice cream to red bean paste.
I wanted to design 2 taiyki stands for a hypothetical fish festival on Tybee Island, one for ice cream and one for traditional taiyaki. From the feedback I received from the thumbnails, I went with the wave and the taiyaki eating the stand.

I made 2 variations for this stand. One is colored to look like it’s Taiyaki swimming the wave, and the other is a carp swimming the wave. I added driftwood for signage.

The thumbnail of the taiyaki eating the top of the stand reminded me of an ice cream that someone dropped, so I ran with it. there is not really much i changed between this and the final draft.

The project produced several design iterations, each offering a different level of mobility depending on how the stand will be used. This gives the client flexibility to choose between a more elaborate themed build and a more portable setup.
